Hi everyone,
I wanted to give you a quick update about an issue some of you may be experiencing when using Running Achievements on Android devices.
Recently, I updated the SSL certificate on my website to a new one from a reputable provider (Comodo / Sectigo).
This has been done every year and renewed with them without issue before now.
Unfortunately, Android 13 and earlier may not recognise this new certificate properly when accessed through Unity-built apps. This causes the app to report the certificate as invalid, which then prevents certain features from working.
It’s important to note that:
The issue does not occur in a normal browser. Opening the website directly in Chrome or another browser works completely fine.
This strongly suggests a compatibility problem between Unity’s networking layer and older versions of Android when handling newer SSL certificates.
This is between the app and unity
To reassure you:
The certificate is genuine and secure.
There is no security risk to your device or data.
The problem is related to SSL handling within Unity on older Android versions, not the certificate itself and is in no way anything to do with parkrun or their servers
I’m actively working on a fix, but it’s proving to be quite tricky and may take some time while I dig into why Unity isn’t accepting this updated certificate on older Android OS versions.
Purchasing another certificate from another company might be a solution, but not an option right now (the app operates at a significant personal cost to me every month).
I really appreciate your patience while I work through this.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support!
