Latest News From All the latest news about new flash games released on as well as a few other bit of news and videos from the world of console and PC games en-uk Sector 53 - The Backstory Tue, 26 Feb 2019 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Sector53 is our space asteroid management game, currently in development, based on an old Amiga game 'K240'.

As development is pushing on, a story line was needed, as with all great games!

Some work has been put into the backstory now, and many characters for the game have been created based on real people from the community giving feedback on the development stages.

We wanted to share the back story while you all wait for the game to be finished, so here it is:

Earth 2080

Population reaching critical levels.

Earths resources are strained.

Earth 2095

Population exceeds sustainability.

World population decreases due to war and resources strains.

Earths resources are too far depleted to recover, overcrowding and conflicts threaten humanity.

Earth 2099

Phase one of plans to populate other planets begins with a Moon colony established to aid population pressures on earth and help aid survival techniques in harsh environments. Used as quick fix for over population on earth, not sustainable.

Earth 2100

The world alliance forms treaty to allow use of nuclear propulsion in space, based on Project Orion, aiding faster space travel.

Earth 2105

First Nuclear propulsion drives used in space craft, cutting travel times drastically, especially over longer distances.

Plans for population offload to other worlds in process.

Earth 2110 - 2150

Initial Colonies established on Saturn’s moon, Titan and Jupiter’s moon Europa now space travel times allow it. Offload of population on Earth starts, but these are harsh worlds, little incentive for the general population to live in these environments.

Earth 2153

A discovery of a vast sector in the Oort Cloud with mass asteroid clustering is found, nicknamed “Sector53”, seemingly created by an unknown cataclysmic event.

Rich in ore and precious metals that can be used for trade and resource material for planetary colonisation, the world alliance plans to move in….

Earth 2154

Mars, already populated and an ideal research location for a full research and development base. Mining colony established for testing asteroid mining methods to be used in Sector53.

World alliance releases statement of intent:

Sector53 mining colonies dubbed by the world alliance as an escape from earth, with the promise of free living, health care and entertainment for all, to help build future worlds of Eden.

The world alliance moves in on Sector53...

Sector53 Development Log 3 Thu, 1 Nov 2018 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Development continues on Sector53, our space based, asteroid mining game based on the old Amiga title “K240” by Gremlin Interactive.
Here is a bit of an update on things.

Previously we mentioned about working on the AI and this has continued.

This has been much harder than expected, so progress has been a little slow.

We have moved it forward somewhat and have a decent level of AI self-sufficiency, though a lot of this code needed to be re-written in order to advance it.

Further work in this area is really the focus moving forward, as the AI still can’t yet attack you or do much else than keep their asteroid running, which doesn’t give you as a player much of a challenge!

Much of the focus of the last few months has been on things like the sector map to navigate and move ships around. I was not happy with the flat 2D map, now this is a full 3D game.

Therefore this is in the process of being changed to a new 3D map.

This will give some nicer effects and actually in the long run be easier to develop on, as the 2D map was full of lots of calculations to convert positions and things to the 2D simplified versions.

The new 3D map makes this element easier to do by using an alternative camera and some clever bits of UI to pull it together.

It doesn’t look like much just at the moment as it is in process of the conversion.

More on this later.

During some down time while I was sick for a few weeks, I made some progress on the story line, along with a little help from the original developer of the Amiga game (K240), Graeme Ing!

He also writes Sci-Fi novels and provided some great ideas for Sector53’s background (Goes without saying we had some nice developer chats too!).

The community, including Graeme, have also continued to provide more feedback on the current Alpha released and have played some of these incomplete versions, just to give some idea of the feel and where it is heading.

From this I have added a lot more into the game, including adding in some of the community as actual characters in the story line.

Some other stuff worked on includes:

Saved Games

Load Games

Character Generation Scripts

Story Line scripts

Tutorial Level

New Music added (thanks to New Light Audio and Lemnisc8)

Performance updates and code refactoring

Many many bug fixes!

A few thanks are in order, as there are a number of people who have contributed so far and continue to do so.

So thank you all.

Here are a few people that deserve and extra thanks:

- Graeme Ing: a huge thanks to your support, development insight, story line ideas and most importantly play testing feedback!

- Ale: Some feedback very close to Graeme, helping focus efforts on the right areas

- Leyton Carter: For providing an initial placeholder sound track, many hours of hard work right there!

- JumailJ: For providing many great 3D models now in the game

- K240 Facebook Group: For giving support, feedback and further ideas

Moving forward, more work on the new map, sending ships to other locations and the campaign levels are under way, as well as more AI work of course!

A more recent Alpha version (1.15.1) was released on 31st October 2018, to Patrons to play as it stands at the moment.

There is a PC and Mac OSX alpha release, playable now.

You too can get the alpha version of the game and be involved in the games development here:

Sector53 Development Log 2 Thu, 15 Mar 2018 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Since the first major Dev Log, Sector 53 (our asteroid mining game based on an old Amiga classic "K240") has had a number of key updates and progress is now picking up pace.

We wanted to keep you updated on this so you know what is coming.

We have been working hard on many AI elements of the code as previously mentioned, but now things are getting harder to program as everything ties together in the background.

A lot of rewrites of code have been needed to account for this and many new bugs have crept in too!

This is a shame in a way as it means there is little to show for our efforts, however it does mean there is a bit more to the game than there was and it is going in the right direction.

Buildings available to you have increased also, expanding the number of buildings to 26.

There are many more planned, including similar buildings to the original K240 game.

Along the same lines, many thoughts have gone into what we can learn and implement into the game that the original did so well.

Some of the nice to haves with be around spaceship configurations and assigning weapons to them, having alien specific ships and buildings (rather than all the same 3D models for all races), that kind of thing.

Some initial work into adding campaign selection has been added in too, this now allows for easy to add scenarios like how many enemies to have, which enemies to allow and how many asteroids, the potential sizes of asteroids and so on.

Should make adding actual campaigns to the game quite quick later when the actual gameplay/AI is finished.

The feedback from the community has been great too. Many new ideas have come out of this like being able to play as any race, not just the humans, being able to tax the population and so on.

Testers of early alpha builds have also provided some great suggestions which we have already implemented! Feedback like this is the best as we can cater to game to the players playing it.

There are so many things now planned in fact, it's going to take a while to implement it all, so we will focus on getting core things in to make a playable version before we add extra features later on.

If you want to get involved, we have also now setup a Patreon account where you can get rewarded by naming something in the game and also get access to the Beta and Alpha builds as we make it:

More updates will follow soon, stay tuned!

Support Us On Patreon Wed, 7 Feb 2018 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming From an early age, me and my dad would make games on various platforms over the years for a bit of a hobby.

We started out with the speccy and spent many hours typing out pages of code to make a simple pong game.

We moved on to more advanced stuff with things like the Shoot Em Up Construction Kit (SEUCK) on the Amiga, Flash games on the PC and right through to today using Unity3D.

It's just hobby, but out of this HollettGaming was born.

Now I use my spare time to make games for people to play for free, no profit involved, just for the love of games!
I write a few reviews and news posts here and try to spend a few hours a week making games where I can.

It's time to ramp this up a bit, so I can get the games I have in mind built quicker and released for you all to play, whilst keeping it all free.

That's where we need your help. My dad and I can only create so much on our own!
We a bit of help, we can pay for music and sound effects, get some decent 3D modellers involved and hopefully push my time into the code and development instead of spending time on these elements myself or with my Dad!

Also, our website hosting costs a lot of money, we could do with help to keep that running too.

In return, we will of course try to release more games quicker for free and of course give all patrons early access to Alpha and Beta builds as well as other rewards.

You can give as little or as much as you like, starting from just $1, you will get rewards and get listed in our game credits!

Unity Tips - Adding headings and tooltips Tue, 7 Nov 2017 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming I thought I would give something back to the Unity community as everyone has been so helpful to me in the past.

This article will show you how to add headings, spacing and tool tips to your unity scripts so that they are spaced out and more organised in the 'inspector' view.

I found this extreemly helpful in viewing my variables and objects in a more organised manner than one big long list.

As soon as I found out about this, I added it to every script!

What's more, this is actually extreemly easy to do.

These are just extra lines you add to the script, below are examples in C Sharp, I'm sure these will work equally well on other languages.

1) Headings
These are the most handy one, they add a nice bold heading above your variables in the inspector.
Simply add this where you want the heading to show:
[Header("My Heading:")]

2) Spacing
A nice one to separate things out a bit, you can decide how much of a gap to add with the value in brackets.
Simply add this line where you want a gap to appear:

3) Tooltips
More helpful to remind you want this parameter is for, without the need to open your script and read any comments you made.
This one needs to go ABOVE the line you want to add a tool tip for, eg:

[Tooltip("My Strings Tool Tip")]
public string MyString = "Some string value";

And here is how your code might look once you add all these:

We hope you found this useful.
Happy coding!

Unity Used For Hollywood Style Movie Thu, 5 Oct 2017 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Unity have teamed up with Neill Blomkamp, who is the celebrated writer and director of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie.
Neill Blomkamp launched Oats Studios earlier this year as an experiment to develop his film ideas without needing the level of resources of a typical Hollywood studio and to speed up production using new technology.
Together they have worked on the short films "ADAM", which really showcase the Unity Engine and what it can achieve, not just in a gaming capacity, but now also in a rendering and cinematic sense.

These short films are only around 6 minutes long each, but they immerse you into a strange and intriguing world, leaving you wanting to know more about this ADAM fellow.
Everyone on the comments is begging for a full film or series to be made out of this, or even just more episodes, that's how good these short films are.

Well, in great timing of the release of the latest Unity Engine "2017.1", the next installment titled "ADAM: The Mirror" has recently been released.
This shows what can be achieved with some of the great new features of Unity like the new Cinematic engine, Cinemachine but also gives the fans a little more (even if it is only six minutes!).

Originally, Unity's Swedish demo team showcased the graphical quality achievable with Unity 5.4 by showing the first installment of ADAM, at the Game Developers Conference in 2016
Chris Harvey, Oats Studios' VFX Supervisor, explained "it blew people away, not only because it was visually fantastic, but the story was super intriguing with a massive cliffhanger."

He went on to explain why Unity is such a good choice for film makers:
"the main appeal of Unity's engine is the real-time rendering, which lets film makers adjust on the fly. Literally, you could put a hat on Adam, hit play, and watch the film with that"

Neill Blomkamp also detailed why Unity has helped production costs:
"The biggest thing for me was the cameras. If you're working live-action, you have no choice but to work with what you shot six months earlier."

In this particular short film, he says Oats started the film with harsh overhead lighting, but later changed the position of the sun, which led to softer, more appealing visuals.

The next chapter "ADAM: The Prophet!" arrives soon too, which we can't wait for.

In the mean time, enjoy the film and check out Oat Studios YouTube Channel for their other films.

Transport Tycoon on your phone Wed, 26 Jul 2017 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Following on from our post about Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic for iOS, I decided to look for other such retro ports and found another gem of a game.
This time, another Chris Sawyer's classic, Transport Tycoon!

Again it is a rebuild for the iPhone / iPad with touch in mind, but the main game is pretty much the same, with a few updates and enhancements to boot.
No annoying adverts to be found either, you are buying the full game.

For those of you who don't remember the original, it's a transport management game where you buy delivery trucks, trains and planes to transfer passengers and goods between cities.
You can rename cities and build routes by road or rail to your desired locations.
Another game I lost many a day / weekend playing on my PC back in the day, it's time to do it all again this time on my phone!

Like with other ports of such tycoon games, the tabs and buttons are a tad bit small and bit of a fiddle on a phone.
Best use your iPad for this or at least an iPhone 6 or bigger screen is recommended.

Probably due to massive bias on my part owing to nostalgia, but a HollettGaming rating of 5 stars: you'll be playing for ages and ages, lots of optiions and scenarios to play, graphics are retro of course but appealing all the same, and you will find it hard to put down.

I'll try find a few more gems like this in future posts!

Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic now on app store Mon, 24 Jul 2017 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming So we just found this!
Chris Sawyer's original Rollercoaster Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 was released on the App Store as one game, Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic, back in December (how did we miss this?).

The game has been rebuilt for the iPhone / iPad with touch in mind, but the main game is exactly the same, it's so similar infact it feels like a full port.
This time though, you get both original games 1 and 2 in the one app, with all the scenarios of the original two games.
The expansion packs are there too, but they are offered as in app purchases.
Mind you, that's the only in app purchase to speak of and no annoying adverts to be found, you are buying the full game here.

For those of you who don't remember the original, it's a theme park management game with some sweet rollercoaster building, you can fully customise pretty much everything about your park, including colour schemes, every twist and turn of the rollercoaster, the jobs each handy man does, times between ride inspections and so on.
I lost many a day / weekend playing this on my PC back in the day, and expect a few such days to pass me by on my phone now!

The only down side is the tabs and buttons to change ride prices and other buttons are a tad bit small and bit of a fiddle on a phone.
Having said that, it is well done and not too much of a pain to do on an iPhone 6 though I wouldn't want to bother on anything smaller than that.

The iPad fairs better, just a bit easier to tap the tiny buttons with.

So an overall HollettGaming rating of 5 stars: you'll be playing for ages and ages, lots of optiions and scenarios to play, graphics are retro of course but appealing all the same, and you will find it hard to put down.

Timekeepers Remake Of Amiga Classic Sun, 18 Dec 2016 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming After a 20 year break from game development, Vulcan Software (creator of classic puzzle adventure games Valhalla and Timekeepers on the Amiga) have confirmed a remake of Timekeepers is indeed  in progress.

We got the the chance to speak to the original developer of Timekeepers and Director of Vulcan Software, Paul Carrington, to ask a few questions about the plans and development progress so far.

For those of your not familiar with the original series, it's a cross between Lemmings and Cannon Fodder.

Of course there may be new generations of players not familiar with these either, so here's what Paul says about the game:

"For anyone who doesn't know what this game was all about, it was a simplistically complex puzzle game, which involved platoon management. You issue commands to your platoon of Timekeepers by pasting symbols within their tile based world and they will do their best to follow your orders, your goal was to manoeuvre your platoon through complex terrain and eventually reach the final level where you could dismantle bombs left by the evil emperor Zorg. If you succeeded then you preserved time. It was a game that made you think, it was extremely simple to operate but very complicated in design and demanded a slow approach, requiring logical and lateral thinking."

The original game was developed in an era where only very small filesize was possible, with very little memory to play with.

Paul had to program the game and images on what would fit on a 1.4mb disk. He also only had 32 colours available to use too!

Creativitiy and forward thinking was therefore needed, which is why this became such a great puzzle game, it was simple yet highly addictive.

Nowadays, 1.4 mb is barely enough for a single picture taken on your phone at very low resolution, imagine trying to program a whole game and images all in that space!

The time has come for modern technologies to take this classic and remake it again.

"I’m going to take the Amiga classic game Timekeepers and recreate it using the latest technology. I’ve not developed computer games for some time and coming back to it (almost 23 years later) I am blown away by how far development tools and hardware has progressed which has got me excited about creating games again."

The original was highly addictive, with the puzzles and many levels keeping you busy.

The concept was to plan out a route and actions for your hapless crew to get as many of them to the transporter and therefore next level as possible.

So what will the remake bring?

"This time around it will be presented in a 3D environment with all of the amazing things available like dynamic lighting, geometry based collision, particle effects and physics. "

Paul goes on to explain "I want to include as much of the original game (and all of the original levels) into the new version but at the same time I want to introduce more operation commands, more animations and to expand upon the detail and interaction within the world".

This means we will see 4 worlds to play through, based on the original time zones covering Hieronymus World, Medieval World, Military World and Space World.

There will also be 4 new worlds too, each world released one at a time over the next few years.

"The first world released will be Medieval World and will contain the original 30 levels but there will be quite a bit of redesigning to cater for new functionality."

Paul is also keen to introduce new functionality with the new found power of newer technologies.

"It will maintain elements of the original game with regards to goals and interaction but I'm keen to introduce more options for controlling the Timekeepers and new abilities...."

Things that may make it into the new remake will be decided as the development progresses, such as:

" individual health system for each Timekeeper, the ability to be damaged by things like fire and explosions, the ability to obtain more capabilities such as swimming and running and the ability to heal oneself."

Having a taste of things to come then, when might we see a release?

It's currently in development using @UnrealEngine and planned for a PC release, possibly at the end of 2017.

There are also plans to then release on other platforms such as iPhone.

You can even download the remastered PC versions released in 2004 on the Vulcan website while we wait for the remake:

Sector53 Development Log 1 Fri, 23 Sep 2016 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming It's been a little while now since we decided to start building Sector 53, our asteroid mining game, based on an old Amiga classic "K240".

Things have moved on nicely since our announcement a year ago.

Development is a little slow though, as it's only a small indie development team, working in spare time (and not paid anything!).

In the year of time we have had, we've been creating new 3D models for the buildings, updating the game objects and other 3D elements to start giving a bit more depth and added a lot of the gameplay code in now.

The main focus however has been on the actual mechanics of the game, the core AI and the ability to save and load all this data.

There is a heck of a lot to do before this is going to be playable, but it's core mechanics are working well now.

You can now build up a nice little ecosystem on the asteroid and mine it, as well as build ships, send them to other sectors to explore, find enemy asteroids and attack them!

Missile silos that launch long range attacks are starting to be programmed now too.

AI programming is throwing up some challenges with the amount of code needed to figure everything out that each AI player needs to do, so this part is taking a lot of time to progress.

Though, the AI can now do a bit of thinking for itself and build required buildings, ships and start mining resources. It can't do much else yet and their ships wont go any where or attack anyone, but they are self sufficient at least!

There are plans for a number of Races to pit the player up against, each with their own strategy and difficulty.

Back to the gameplay, we now have a solid 20 or so buildings to build with many more planned.

Shornsoft are kindly proving a number of buildings for us.

Only 3 ship models are ready but we are looking at getting some user submitted ships into the game to help move things along quicker.

Twitter follower @CGLuke has provided our first user ship and is already in the game! Hit us up on twitter or on our contact page if you want to get involved and we will send you some details on what we need.

The user interface is not very pretty, a bit clunky and not really how it will end up, but it's functional. We will work more on cosmetics once the game is playable.

Feedback is welcomed and don't forget to Follow us on Twitter for more frequent screenshots and gameplay videos as we make it!

Take a look at some of the latest screenshots below.

Tennis Champs Returns Thu, 11 Aug 2016 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Ok, so I found this the other day and got totally addicted in minutes!

I played the original back in the Amiga days, which came on the cover disk of an old Amiga Power magazine.

And this remake on the iOS is nothing short of spectacular.

It's super addictive and hard to put down.

Not only has it been remade, but improved and made better with career mode and training.

Part of the fun of this game is learning the controls and how to pull of curved shots, drop shots and top spin shots, not to mention a good lob shot at the right moment.

The game starts off pretty difficult, but push through and you get a really great sense of achievement as you climb the world rankings and improve your players skills.

There are hundreds of AI players to go up against and many tournements to play.

There's daily challenges too which earn you rewards to help you progress.

Its totally free to play aswell, which is great to see, however it does come with the annoying watch ads to earn coins you need to enter competitions.

Infact, I'd say it was a little too heavy on adverts,  you sometimes get a popup video you can't skip just before playing a match.

For a small fee these can be all removed so it's not all bad and the poor developer needs to make some money somehow!

I would advise you pick this one up, its too fun to miss out on.

Here's the official blurb:

"Remade completely for iOS by the original Amiga version programmer Elton Bird, using the original characters and retouched animation, combined with all new physics, AI, new controls, Daily Challenges, and a great new Career mode.
Daily Challenge serves up a mixture of modes, tennis games, opponents and mini games each day, with completion yielding rewards to help you in your career.
Career mode pits you against a field of 200 Tennis Pros on a full world tour packed with Events."

History of Tennis Champs:

"Originally received from coder Elton Bird as a PD game for review, Amiga Format passed TENNIS CHAMPS on to sister mag Amiga Power for inclusion as a coverdisk and Audiogenic for commercial evaluation. Audiogenic promptly signed the game up for publication and asked it be recoded from AMOS into Blitz BASIC, so that more players/tournaments and extra features (e.g. doubles involving human/computer partners, 4 player joystick adapter & joypad support) could be incorporated into the commercial release that eventuated into a sequel. Within 6 months, the game was released commercially as SUPER TENNIS CHAMPS."

Dead Island 2 Resumes Development Thu, 10 Mar 2016 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming It's great news for Zombie bashing fans and fans of the Dead Island game.

Publisher Deep Silver have announced Sumo Digital have now taken over development of Dead Island 2, formally developed by Yager Productions.

Deep Silver reportedly parted ways with Yager due to a 'difference in vision' for the game.

The UK based studio Sumo Digital are responsible for Little Big Planet 3 and Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed.

"Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas and an excellent vision that was aligned with our own...
It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them."
said Klemens Krudratitz, chief executive of Deep Silver's parent company Koch Media.

Paul Porter, chief operating officer of Sumo Digital goes on to say:

"It's an honor to be charged with the evolution of such an important franchise...
We're looking forward to exceeding fan expectation with an ambitious design that we're confident will take bone crushing visceral zombie action to a whole new level."

Further news will be announced later, but Deep Silver are super excited about progress they are making with Sumo.

Let's be fair though, it probably wont be for a long while before we hear more on this!

We have also put together a little collection of images from the set for your browsing pleasure.

There are a few cracking ones in here, such as one of Michael Fassbender wielding a sword and an On Set village scene.

The marketing material released shows a business card, which apparently if you call the US number seen on it, 1-646-845-9162, you'll hear a voicemail from Mr. Rikkin.

American Truck Simulator Release Sat, 9 Jan 2016 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Game developer, "SCS Software", are set to release the American version of Euro Truck Simiulator, "American Truck Simulator" early this year.

The game looks to be in the same format as Euro Truck Simulator, just starting out in California.

They state to be releasing the gaem with a load of content, but will release more updates later.

Euro Truck 2 is still going today and is regularly updated, so we doubt they will disapoint us.

Here is SCS Software's marketing explaination of the game, with our comments:

Experience the American Greatest

Drive the most famous American trucks and deliver various cargoes across the United States.

Well at least you will start with a 'handful' since they don't have all the licences yet, it will only release with some but they have plans to add many more.

Haul Through the Legendary Roads

American Truck Simulator will take you on a journey throughout the vast
landscapes full of breathtaking and iconic landmarks of North America

Well, for now just California!

It is the "Big Ol' US of A" don't forget. It's going to take time to map this out!

Become the King of the Road

Get in the seat of a driver for hire entering the local freight market and work your way
up to create one of the largest transportation companies in the United States

This one will be teh case from the start, the game engine used is the same as Euro Truck Simulator 2, it's almost identical.

You can earn enough money trucking for others before you buy your first actual truck.

After a while you will be able to buy your own depot and start hiring other drivers.

Before long (we quite long actually :-) ), you will be buying more depots and more trucks to expand your empire.

You can also invest in training your drivers to get more rewarding jobs or simply hire more experianced ones.

Not only that, but SCS have also developed a new Mod Tool for use with Blender. The community already heavily Mod Euro Truck 2, so this comes as a great addition to the franchise.

This will offer some structure to the Mods created and allow more powerful features for Modders from the offset and will pave the way for future expansion of the USA map no doubt!

We love Euro Truck 2 so much, we can't wait for this one.

Check out the video below.... Oh and almost forgot, it's out February 3rd 2016!

Assassins Creed Movie Photos Fri, 6 Nov 2015 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming A new image from the set of assassins creed movie has been released. It gives us a glimpse of the level of quality the production of the film has. That's a mighty nice sword, but who's the face on the handle representing?

Joseph Formosa Randon, Assassin's Creed movie's location manager updates us all on the film's production location:

"[Of] the entire Malta far the most complex [location] were the various areas within Valletta," Randon revealed in an interview recently. "I don't know if you know Malta, but Valletta is the capital, very busy with businesses, lots of residents, narrow streets, limited parking, all the usual fun stuff. We more or less took over, closing main streets for a couple of weeks, and transformed it all into 15th Century Seville."

The plot follows character Desmond Miles, an ordinary bartender who is a descendant of prominent assassin's from the Knights Templar period. Though raised as an assassin, he abandons his family to lead a normal life. He is then captured by Abestergo Industries, a modern-day Knights Templar, and forced to go back to his "ancestral memories" and alter history.

The cast includes Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire), Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow) and French actress Ariane Labed (Fidelio: Alice's Journey).

The movie is directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) from a screenplay by Bill Collage and Adam Cooper.

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed movie is to be released in cinemas on December 21, 2016.

We can't wait to see it!

Rainbow6 Siege Free Beta Access Keys Thu, 10 Sep 2015 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming With Rainbox6 Siege delayed until the 1st December, Ubisoft have released a rather neat way to get hold of a free Beta access code so you can get playing sooner!

Yes you heard it, you can get a FREE beta code for the game.

All you have to do is play a small interactive video, choosing a course of action at strategic points to seal your victory (or doom!).

There are 5 levels to complete, each with nice in game footage of an actual siege scenario.

Pick the right tactical choices by clicking an option within 5 seconds, then watch the next part of the drama unfold.

A bad choice will lead to mission failure.

Read on my frends, read on for how to get this key...

It's quite a clever marketing tactic from Ubisoft to be honest, works really well.

One of our personal favourite maps from the R6 games "Rouge Spear's 747 Plane level seems to have had an influence on the new game, along with some hints for a level much like Raven Shield's Villa, we can't wait to try those. Brings back some good memories!

So go on, grab your beta key now before it's too late:

Sector 53 in development Fri, 21 Aug 2015 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming Today we announce a new game hollettgaming is developing called sector 53. It's in the very early stages so we don't have much to show yet, but checkout the screenshot for a glimpse of what's to come. We are currently working on the core gameplay at the moment rather than graphics and other interface elements.

The game will be based around mining asteroids in a hostile sector of space known as sector 53. Packed with ore rich asteroids, it's a cut throat sector of space where competition for resources is fearce. Mine asteroids, build defences and send out missiles and ships to destroy your ememies.

Loosely based on an old Amiga game called K240, we want to bring back the fun of the original, but in our own hollettgaming style.

NASA spacecraft uses Playstation CPU Wed, 15 Jul 2015 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming It may sound a little crazy, but NASA's New Horizons space probe uses the good old Sony Playstation ones CPU for the core brain of the probes processing power!

Why you might ask? Well NASA chooses to use well tried and tested components with high reliability due to the nature of space exploration. So rather than use something that hasn't got a track record, they will use such a CPU to endure those tricky years in space.

Why not use something more powerful? It's simple, it doesn't need to be, after all it doesn't need to run intensive 3d games!

The power of the Playstation CPU is more than enough for its needs and helps keep energy usage low, what's more have you ever had a PS1 crash on you? Probably not many times in the grand scheme of things if at all. There's also plenty of them still working today if it's not in the loft gathering dust!

Reliability is key, glad they didn't use an Xbox 360 with a potential red ring of death!

MegaWars Is Listening To The Community Fri, 15 May 2015 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming MegaWars is listening to the community of fans already!

During our interview with developers Crimson Leaf, a suggestion from HollettGaming has already gone into the alpha development phase of the game, before it's even got to the beta release.

This is great news for the fans of the game, showing how input and suggestions can help shape the future of the product if it benefits others playing it too.

When we caught up with Matt and David again this week, here's what they had to say about it:

"The entire MegaWars team is developing this game with the players as our core focus. We are an independent studio full of gamers who know that the success of this game depends solely on our community. If the players want it, we will do everything in our power to make it happen."

"During our discussion with Ford and the HollettGaming team, we got a great suggestion to incorporate a 'Spectator Mode' into MegaWars. We are happy to make that addition and know that it will add a great benefit to all players."

It's evident this game is going to be community focused, with a real chance your suggestions can get into the final version.

Matt goes on to explain:

"This game is 15% combat, 35% resource management and 50% social. With that in mind, the MegaWars player base is an integral part of the game. We are developing for the players."

In fact, there is no doubt this game will continue to develop way after launch with the help of the players, much like the original effort into the web based version they recreated.

"It's simple - you wanted it, it makes the game better, Let's do it!... Even after release, we will continue to make adjustments to the game that the players want."

Check out the video showing some of the suggestions from players that have been updated in the alpha stages.

MegaWars Remake Coming Soon Sat, 9 May 2015 00:00:00 GMT Latest News HollettGaming We caught up with David Baity (Chief Technical Officer) and Matt Parisi (Chief Executive Officer) of Crimson Leaf LLP, heading up the remake of an old classic "Mega Wars".
For those of you unfamiliar with the original Mega Wars, it was a space war game in the 80s and 90s, text based and could be played over the internet.

David played some of the very first wars back in 1984. Back in those days, it was also rather expensive to play.
After the closure of the game servers in 1999, David had grown a great passion for the game and didn't want it to end.
David wanted to bring back the game and make it "more accessible and cheaper for fans" like himself to play.
This inspired him to learn how to code such a game.

In 2009, David started to rebuild the game in HTML, with the help of other fans of the original.
While following the same gameplay mechanics, the entire game was recoded from scratch and was even based on the original manual, allowing the fans to play once again and help tune the game to the communities liking.
Still predominantly browser based with text and images only, it was time to stepup the game to a new level, to entice an entirely new fan base.

The new Mega Wars game is now in development in full 3D glory, based on the Unity Engine.
Gameplay keeps as close to the original as possible, but with notable enhancements of course with modern day technology on hand.

The main unique thing about Mega Wars is the way the "wars" work.
A war or multiple wars in the Mega Wars universe last 30 real days. During this time you can play as much or a little as you like and help your team of other players take over planets and conquer the enemy team.
Scoring is done both individually and as a team, to determine the winners and the end of the war, before a new war begins.
Once a war is over, the game is all reset for the next war. You can't take anything with you from the last game and tehre is no level up system.
This keeps players on equal grounds with each other, even new players, though a skilled veteran of the game would have the upper hand.
It is all about skill and strategy.

There are also other game modes outside of the 30 day wars.
Academy mode allows players to go play on their own with no need for other players around, a single player mode if you like.
5 v 5 team mode is a faster play option, lasting just an hour or so, rather than a full on 30 day war.
Other game modes will be available too.

Currently in Alpha stages and under going internal review, a Kickstarter launch starts in July.
Once the Kickstarter ends, August will see the release to Beta which is where things will get interesting as players can play the game straight away while the game continues to be developed.

Official game release out of Beta is looking to be the end of the year, targeted at PC, Mac and Linux initially.
At release this year for desktop, there will be an app too for mobile phones, to allow alerts for the game and some planet management, but not a full scale game.
When asked about the possibility of a full mobile version, David and Matt were keen to point out that if the community wanted it, it certainly would be considered:
"We are an indie shop, and if the community wants that then we'll make sure we get it for them..." says Matt

There are plans for release on Playstation and Xbox later next year should things all go to plan.

This is effectively a game made by the fans, for the fans with a great amount of passion and community input.
It should be without doubt a real "blast"!
