Latest News From HollettGaming.com All the latest news about new flash games released on HollettGaming.com as well as a few other bit of news and videos from the world of console and PC games http://www.hollettgaming.com en-uk The rise of online gaming http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=45 http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=45 Wed, 25 Aug 2010 00:00:00 GMT Poker Image It's not just kids that enjoy playing games. We all need a little distraction every now and then. Games are not only a release, they can test our reactions, our logical thinking and our imaginations. Now that we can play games online, more and more people are getting involved. Whether it's a five-minute distraction during lunch hour or an afternoon playing a complicated strategy, the growth in game playing has been astronomical in the past decade.

According to Ofcom's recent report 'The Communications Market 2010', 39% of Internet users in the UK now play online games. This makes it the most popular form of media consumption in the country.

This in an increase of 1% on the same time last year, which pushes gaming ahead of film and music downloads. Overall, the British public spends nine hours a day using media in some form, from watching TV in the evening to using the internet at work and playing a game via the web from their smartphone on the way home from the office. It seems we need to stay connected to the wider world in any shape or form.

There are now vast numbers of websites that are dedicated to online gaming, but as the market explodes, other sites, not traditionally gaming sites, are adding gaming sections, particularly the large social networking sites like Facebook. Even advertising is using games as a way to draw customers in to a particular product or service.

Earlier this year Google celebrated the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man, one of the most popular and addictive games of all time. The search engine had a 'Google doodle' allowing users to play for free as many times as they liked, steering their icon around a Google shaped maze.

There are so many different types of games to choose from these days. You can play traditional arcade games online from the comfort of your lounge or office chair during your lunch break. Many sites offer the classics such as Space Invaders, Donkey Kong and the Prince of Persia.

There are skill games too that test your memory, coordination, reactions and logical thinking. But there are just as many games that are designed purely for fun. If you're good at them you can even gamble a little. For example, 32 Red offer online bingo with regular monthly offers and £10 worth of free credit when you sign up.]]>

Development Update http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=42 http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=42 Fri, 25 Jun 2010 00:00:00 GMT Poker Image Development continues on the new Virtual Airliner 2.

The aircraft physics have been updated to give more of a difference in flight control between planes. Thought the overall look will remain as it was in the first Virtual Airliner, there is now an ability to fly in all directions so you will need to master not only altitude and speed, but also rotation!

There are two planes currently coded, a light Cessna and a heavy 747.  Expect the light aircraft to be nimble and easy to control, but the heavy aircraft to be less manoeuvrable and a little tricker to handle.

The overall map is complete, with a few different islands to transport passengers to and from. Work will continue on populating the islands with buildings and other scenery next, then on to constructing the other in game elements such as purchase of planes and population management of the islands airports.

New aircraft will also be added, any suggestions are welcome. Drop us a message on our contact page.]]>
Finding the Right Table http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=41 http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=41 Thu, 24 Jun 2010 00:00:00 GMT Poker Image Online poker has grown massively in popularity in recent years, and through the growth of online poker the game itself has enjoyed something of a renaissance. If you enjoy playing a few hands of poker every now and then with your friends and fancy playing a few games online, here’s a quick guide to finding the right website for you.

The first thing to bear in mind is that there are new companies popping up every day, the vast majority are legitimate, but there are always a few who will be looking to make a quick bit of money and won’t necessarily be playing by the rules. Look for the eCOGRA sign on any website that you look at, eCOGRA stands for eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance and they regulate the online gaming industry, any respectable online casino will have the eCOGRA sign front and centre.

The next thing to think about is that before you hand over money you’ve got to make sure you enjoy it. Most good websites will offer people the opportunity to try their tables or to try their games for free or for very little money, or even provide a certain amount of cash up front to new members to experiment with the games. Don’t just open an account and deposit money without trying out the games first.

Connected to this, you have to be sure that the tables you are playing are legitimate and safe. There has been a lot in the media in recent months and years about online casinos not offering fair odds. Any company that has been accused at any point of cheating its customers is probably one to steer clear of, a quick internet search of the name of the company should bring up any complaints, so make sure you steer clear of them.

The next thing is that you want to be sure that your money and your bank details are safe, so look for accreditation regarding money transfer systems, again, most responsible companies will be keen to assure you that your money is safe with them.

Finally, and this is by no means a necessity but it is a good idea, a good online casino like 32 Red have their commitment to responsible gaming demonstrated loud and proud on the front of their website. Gambling is addictive and you can lose large sums of money so look for a website that has a commitment to keep its customers safe, rather than solely looking to take their money.]]>
World Cup Game Released http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=40 http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=40 Fri, 11 Jun 2010 00:00:00 GMT
HollettGaming are proud to announce the first of a new series of games called Soccer Skills.

In this version named 'England Edition', the World Cup theme has been picked as a quick mini game to play and see how many goals you can score one on one against the keeper.

Future versions will have a full pitch and a full team to play with or against! At the moment the keeper is not all that good so you should be able to rack up the goals quite easily.

Inspirations have been taken from the old Amiga Classic Sensible World Of Soccer. All the graphics of the players and pitch have been hand drawn, pixel by pixel for each animation so that the players can easily have the skin, hair and shirt colours changed.

Expect new versions to come later in the year, but for now, see if you can get on that highscore table and let us know what you think of this first effectively beta version.

OnLive - Games on Demand http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=38 http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=38 Fri, 14 May 2010 00:00:00 GMT
OnLive is set for launch in the US on the 17th June.

So what is OnLive?
OnLive is a revolutionary way of playing games with an internet connection. All you need is a PC/Mac or a TV and OnLive TV adaptor.

OnLive comes with it's own controller, but allows you to play any game anytime, regardless of the platform. No need to buy a new PS4 or Xbox370 should one be released! All the games are streamed to you using some unique compression technology.

The idea is to never have to buy a new console, and pick up any game any time all through your existing internet connection.

There is of course a subscription fee to pay to access the service, looking to be around $15 per month, BT have also invested in the technology, meaning it should be available to all UK broadband users (not just BT customers). I would image a fee of around £12 per month for the UK but this is just speculation.

In addition to the monthly fee, you need to still purchase the game to play the full version, though the portal does boast a big community with playable demos and videos.

You can find out more about OnLive at there website www.onlive.com

New Game in development http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=32 http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=32 Sat, 13 Mar 2010 00:00:00 GMT HollettGaming are working on another new game.

The game idea was provided by Bhaavesh Patil, for a missile launcher to shoot at incoming planes.

Well, we took that idea and decided to expand on it a little.

The game will be in an isometric view with planes flying from right to left. They will attempt to bomb your city, you must protect it at all costs with your trusty SAM  (Surface to Air Missile) gunner.

You will have four missiles to use at once but will have to wait until new ones are loaded from the missile silos in the ground.

The game is in early stages but shouldn't take too long to finish off!

Look out for an update on this one soon.

Regardless of the rumours, this Playstation 3 title looks to be a stunner! For those of you who just can't wait, check out thelatest images and videos below:

Looking at this new video and other past videos shows just how massive this game is.
The game has been in development for some time, understandably with the scope involved.
It is a bit of a shame that after such a long time in development, the cash dynamics still seem very bug ridden and appear to carry a resemblance to previous games such as King of the Road whereby when hitting other vehicles the truck and cars 'jump' around. Maybe they will update this before launch.

Speaking of the launch date, this was planned for release sometime in November, but this has since slipped. The new date is given as Q1 2010, a sensible but annoyingly vague range.

Looking at the new video, it seems clear the game will live up to the expectations, with add-on packs in the planning.

Rig n Roll Official release date in Russia and CIS countries was revealed this week as being the 27th November of this year.

The game has been in development for a number of years and follows on from the 'King of the Road' and 'Hard Truck' series.  Winning numerous awards such as 'best simulation game on KRI 2009' and the game has not even been released yet.

Rig n Roll delivers players the ultimate truck driving experience with authentic models of trucks and their interiors, a completely new physics and astonishing 3D graphics among numerous features.

Showcased at many games conventions over the years, it looks to be a superb game especially for fans of the old series.  While the game has taken so long to produce, there is no doubt the wait will be worth it looking at the videos and stunning screenshots.

One thing omitted from the release will be the multiplayer option, such a shame considering the popularity this would create for the game.

Future updates and city packs are also promised which will help to keep the longevity factor, so who knows, they may even add a multi player add-on?

As a fan of King of the Road, I can't wait to see this one in action and will of course add a review once it's been 'Road tested'.]]>
Assassins Creed 2 Review http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=4 http://www.hollettgaming.com/newsarticle.asp?article=4 Sun, 7 Jun 2009 00:00:00 GMT

After playing the first Assassins Creed, I couldn't help get excited when I heard the sequel was coming.

This time, set in Italy in the 15th Century (1486).

This is the realm of Leonardo De Vinci and Renascence period, though what lies in the darkness is far more interesting.

When I saw the intro scene to the game, I was finding it hard to tell if this was not an actual movie being played. The cut scenes look superb, with some seamless transitions to and from the game. This builds on the way the first game already did this but now with even more flair.

A few new features have slipped in such as flying machines to scope out the city, new smoke bombs to blind your foes and now you can even steal the enemies weapons.
Along with this, the unique climbing feature found in the first game has not been lost, infact you can now pull people over the edges whilst on the way up!

A whole new array of moves are now at your disposal, steal weapons, perform double kills from behind (yes you can now kill two people with one fowl swoop!) and you can even swim.

To sum up, a great sequel is expected with a great new plot and improved graphics. The format of missions looks set to be the same, which was the first games downfall. A little too repetitive, but now with the addition of flying machines and the likes, this should add to the variety.

A must for all Assassins Creed fans.
